Proposal · Modernizing tophandsurgeon.com

A faster, NYC-first front door for Dr. Badia’s Manhattan practice.

tophandsurgeon.com is Dr. Badia’s site for patients in New York. It has valuable content (patient videos, reviews, a Manhattan location), but it loads slowly on phones, sends mixed signals about the New York office, and its contact form is broken. The new concept site leads with the Manhattan office (380 2nd Ave, The Gramercy Surgery Center) and the NYC procedure day, offers telemedicine second, and keeps Miami as an option for complex cases. It uses only real content from tophandsurgeon.com and drbadia.com.

49–53mobile Performance score of tophandsurgeon.com (3 Lighthouse runs)
22.6–25.5 sLargest Contentful Paint on mobile
54mobile Best Practices score (JavaScript console error, third-party cookies)
86mobile Accessibility score (contrast, unlabeled link)

Google Lighthouse 12.8.2, home page https://tophandsurgeon.com/, run October 18, 2026 (U.S. time) with simulated mobile throttling. Desktop: Performance 88, Accessibility 89, Best Practices 56, SEO 92. Mobile SEO: 92. Scores vary from run to run; we ran mobile three times.

Starting point

What tophandsurgeon.com has today.

A WordPress (Elementor) site with a home page, locations, reviews, a video library, testimonials and a telemedicine page. About links out to drbadia.com.

On tophandsurgeon.com todayIn the new site
A New York location (The Gramercy Surgery Center, 380 2nd Avenue #1000) and phone 646-681-4010, mentioned mainly in the header and footerThe Manhattan office comes right after the hero: address, phone, “no referral needed”, same-day care plans, bilingual support, flexible appointment times, and Dr. Badia’s decade at NYU Medical Center, Bellevue and the Manhattan VA
Around 50 video posts across 6 categories, mostly dated 202311 curated patient and education videos with filters by body area, playing in a privacy-friendly player
A Google reviews widget and 3 reviews on the home pageSelected reviews from the home page and drbadia.com/nyc, credited and linked
A telemedicine page with only a “$250” notice; Miami travel content mixed in with New York contentTelemedicine as option 2, with the 5-step patient journey; Miami (surgery center, hotels) in a collapsible “If you travel to Miami” section near the end
No conditions or treatments pages (they live on drbadia.com)A conditions explorer for 6 body areas and 8 sourced treatments, linked to drbadia.com

Factual problems

What gets in a patient’s way.

Each item was observed on the live sites in October 2026.

  • Slow on phonesMobile Lighthouse Performance 49–53, LCP 22.6–25.5 s, FCP about 13–14 s, roughly 3.8–4.0 MB per page load; Lighthouse estimates 1.7 s of render-blocking resources and 386 KiB of unused JavaScript.
  • Broken contact formtophandsurgeon.com/contact/ shows the raw text [gravityform id="2" …] instead of a form.
  • Three names for the New York officeThe header says “Upper East Side Manhattan, NY”, the home page and location page say “Midtown Manhattan”, and the address is The Gramercy Surgery Center, 380 2nd Avenue, New York, NY 10010. drbadia.com/nyc uses both “Upper East Side” and “Midtown”.
  • Several phone numbers646-681-4010 in the header and location pages, 929-605-4263 in the sidebar of 13 post pages, (305) 570-3434 in a 2023 blog post, and (305) 227-4263 as the number to schedule the October New York visit.
  • Outdated messages2023 video posts still say “Our newest location will be opening soon in #midtown #manhattan”.
  • Telemedicine pricing told two waysThe telemedicine pages state $250, while a drbadia.com telemedicine FAQ says the cost “varies depending on your condition”.
  • JavaScript and third-party issuesConsole error “wppopups_pro_vars is not defined”, third-party cookies, deprecated APIs, and a background image loaded from an unrelated domain (estrellaaesthetics.com).
  • Dead ends“Ask Dr. Badia” (/ask/) shows only a language pop-up; there is no WhatsApp contact on either site.
  • A sensitive public sentenceThe drbadia.com post announcing the New York surgical visit says “New York referral volume has cooled in 2026.” We recommend reviewing that wording, and we didn’t use it on the new site.

What’s built

What the new site does.

A fast, static, mobile-first site in English. Every fact comes from tophandsurgeon.com or drbadia.com, with sources listed in SOURCES.md.

The heart of the site

A guided assistant for New York patients

Four questions (body area, duration, previous treatment, and whether you’re in NYC, nearby or farther away), or a free-text message such as “my thumb has hurt for a year and cortisone didn’t help.” It returns:

  • Common conditions for that area, linked to drbadia.com
  • How Dr. Badia treats them, plus matching patient videos
  • The right door, in order: the Manhattan office and the October NYC procedure day, then telemedicine; Miami only as an option for complex cases
  • A case summary to copy, with buttons to request an appointment or call New York

Rule-based, runs in the browser, and sends no data. Not a diagnosis, and it says so.

NYC first

Manhattan leads everywhere

Headline, navigation, calls to action, FAQ and the mobile call bar all point to the Manhattan office first, plus the October 2026 NYC procedure day (carpal tunnel, Tenex, PRP).

Proof

Videos and reviews

11 videos and 4 reviews, credited and linked to their source.

Guidance

Conditions and treatments

6 body areas and 8 treatments (Tenex, endoscopic carpal tunnel release, PRP, WAVR, ultrasound with AR, BioPro, arthroscopy, REGENETEN).

Contact

One config file

NY phone, Miami phone, booking link and WhatsApp in js/config.js. WhatsApp buttons stay hidden until a number is provided.

Local SEO

Built for “Manhattan hand surgeon” searches

Title, description and social tags name Manhattan/NYC; MedicalClinic/LocalBusiness and Physician structured data use only the confirmed address and phone (no hours or coordinates until confirmed). Static, fast, no cookies, accessible.

Needs client input

What we need to move forward.

These are decisions only the practice can make. Most are a one-line change in js/config.js.

  • Confirm the Manhattan officeOfficial neighborhood name for 380 2nd Ave (the site says “Manhattan” until confirmed; OpenStreetMap places it in Gramercy, near East 22nd Street), office hours, and whether consultations are at The Gramercy Surgery Center.
  • One New York phone number646-681-4010, 929-605-4263 or another, and whether NY visits should be booked through (305) 227-4263.
  • The October New York visitThe exact date, location and how to book, or whether to remove it after October.
  • WhatsAppA number for New York patients, if you want one. It’s hidden until then.
  • Telemedicine feeConfirm $250 for domestic patients, so every page says the same thing.
  • Medical and legal reviewApproval of the copy, the assistant’s answers, and use of patient names, quotes and videos.
  • Domain and analyticsWhether this replaces tophandsurgeon.com (with redirects for existing URLs), which analytics tool to use, and the privacy notice.

Next step

Review the site and tell us what to change.

With the answers above, the NYC site can replace tophandsurgeon.com, and the office hours can go into the page and its structured data.
